B.Sc. Nautical Science

This is a three-year degree program approved by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India. Following a year of residential training, candidates undergo a 12-month sea phase on board a ship for Nautical Science residential training. Additionally, they are required to complete a four-month post-sea training in any training institute, focusing on 2nd mate functions. Upon successful completion of the training and passing the exam, candidates receive a Certificate of Competency from the Director General of Shipping and a B.Sc. Degree in Nautical Science from the Indian Maritime University (IMU).

Career Flow in CCMC Course in Merchant Navy:

The career progression for the CCMC (Certificate of Competency in Maritime Courses) in the Merchant Navy follows a structured path:

  • Twelve months of pre-sea training (semesters 1 & 2 – IMU) program along with mandatory four STCW courses.

  • Join as a deck cadet onboard a vessel for a minimum period of 12 months with a stipend ranging from $300 to $500.

  • Complete a four-month preparatory post-sea training, obtain a 2nd mate Certificate of Competency, and sail as a 3rd/2nd Navigating Officer for 12 months with a salary ranging from $3500 to $5500.

  • Six months of preparatory post-sea training, obtain a 1st mate Certificate of Competency, complete 18 months of sea time as a 1st Navigating Officer/Chief Officer with a salary ranging from $5500 to $8500.

  • Obtain a Master Certificate of Competency and sail as a Master/Captain of the ship with a salary ranging from $8500 to $12000.

Eligibility for B.Sc. Nautical Science:

To qualify for the B.Sc. Nautical Science course, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Pass in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as separate subjects, maintaining a PCM average of at least 60% and 50% marks in English in 10th or 10+2.
  • Medical and physical fitness.
  • 6/6 eye vision with no color blindness.
  • Age between 18 to 25 years.

Certificates Provided in CCMC Course:

Upon successful completion of the training, candidates are awarded a B.Sc. in Nautical Science degree by the Indian Maritime University (IMU).
