Graduate In Marine Engineering – GME

This 12-month Marine Engineering graduation course is tailored for individuals currently pursuing Mechanical Engineering in their undergraduate studies, seeking a transition into the field of Marine Engineering. The GME (Graduate Marine Engineer) course is officially sanctioned by the Directorate General of Shipping and encompasses a curriculum that delves into marine engines, along with practical marine workshop training.

Career Progression Flow:

The post-graduation career progression is outlined as follows:

  • 12 months of pre-sea training (exempted from Class IV Part ‘A’ Certificate of Competency).
  • Join as a Junior/Trainee Engineer for a minimum of 8 months on board a ship with a stipend ranging from $400 to $800.
  • Obtain Class IV Part ‘B’ Certificate of Competency, sail as a 4th Engineer for 12 months with a salary between $3500 and $5500.
  • Obtain Class II (Part ‘A’ & ‘B’) Certificate of Competency, sail as a 3rd Engineer for 18 months with a salary ranging from $5500 to $7500.
  • Obtain Class I Certificate of Competency, sail as a 2nd Engineer/Chief Engineer with a salary ranging from $8000 to $12000.

GME Course Eligibility:

Prospective applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria to be considered for the GME course. The following prerequisites determine qualification for the program:

  • Possession of a B.E. or B. Tech degree in Mechanical or Naval Architecture from an AICTE-approved institution with a minimum of 60% overall marks and at least 50% in English in the 10th/10+2 exams.
  • Medical and physical fitness.
  • 6/6 eye vision with no color blindness.
  • Age between 18 and 25 years.

 

Certificates Issued After Graduation in Marine Engineering:

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be awarded an official Certificate of Competency by the academy, duly approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India.
